- Pediatric Asthma Clinic
Among children, asthma is the leading cause of hospital admissions, visits to the emergency room, and school absences. With the correct management, asthma can be controlled so children can lead healthy and active lives.
The Pediatric Asthma Clinic at NeighborHealth provides comprehensive care for our pediatric patients with difficult-to-control asthma from infancy through adolescence. Our specialized nurse practitioner will meet with you one-on-one to provide ongoing asthma education. You’ll learn about what may be triggering your child’s asthma, what you can do to control it, and how to manage acute asthma episodes. If you are worried about asthma triggers within your home, we work with community programs that assist with housing concerns. Spirometry testing, or breathing test, is also available when needed.
Take control!
Working with your primary care provider, the Asthma Clinic will develop an individualized treatment plan for your child, known as an Asthma Action Plan, to keep at home and share with your child’s teachers and school nurse. This important tool includes:
- Step-by-step instructions that explain what your child should do daily to control his or her asthma
- How to recognize and handle worsening asthma symptoms or an asthma attack
- Details when you need to call the doctor or go to the emergency room
- The names of your child’s asthma medications and tells you when to use them
All of your child’s caregivers (daycare providers, babysitters, camps, school nurse, etc.) should understand the Asthma Action Plan and have a copy on hand.
Talk to your child’s primary care provider about becoming a patient of the Pediatric Asthma Clinic.
