EBNHC Receives HRSA Funding

East Boston, MA, April 1, 2009—The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) has been selected to receive $663,663 in grant money from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). HRSA is the primary federal agency responsible for improving access to health care services for people who are uninsured, isolated, or medically vulnerable.

Announced on March 27, 2009, a total of $338 million was granted through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to expand services offered at the nation’s community health centers at this time of economic challenge. The Increased Demand for Services (IDS) grants permit health centers to offer more care to more patients. Some ways in which health centers can expand services include adding new providers, increasing hours of operations, and/or expanding programs. Expanding services often results in the creation or retention of health center jobs as well.

At EBNHC, eight new providers will be hired to meet the increased demand for services at the health center. It is estimated that the addition of the new providers will allow EBNHC to offer health care services to another 4,000 patients annually.
